OLEOPHOBIC

Any ColorSealer can block the simple stains, like coffee, soy sauce & red wine from penetrating into the porous grout. These types of spills are generally cleaned up pretty quickly. Few people leave big sloppy stains sitting around very long. Colorseal products can prevent many permanent stains.

The bigger problem with soils on a sealed grout is the slow, oily build up that clings to the surface of other ColorSealers, attracts dust and grime, and becomes difficult to clean. Only PT ColorClad™ actually repels oils and fats and leaves the surface much easier to clean.

BREATHABLE

PT ColorClad™ is not designed to waterproof your tile floor. If that floor really needs to be waterproof, say in a shower or on an outside deck covering an occupied space, then that surface should be waterproofed before the tile is set. This is just sound building practice. A waterproof membrane needs to be pinhole free with no exposed edges. That is impossible to do by just coating grout lines.

PT Colorclad™ is impermeable to liquid water. It passes ASTM D6904 which is a coatings test to determine if a steady high pressure water spray will allow water passage through a coating. That is testing a pinhole free film with no exposed edges, again conditions that do not exist on a ColorSealed floor or wall. So don't think water pours through our sealer. ColorClad™ itself is indeed waterproof.

CORE COLOR SYSTEM

Other ColorSeal suppliers offer a handful of standard common grout colors, and if you can't sell them, tell you to go out and find 3rd party grout color charts and they will try to match them. We've never seen a grout color chart made with actual grout - they are either plastic strips or ink on paper. There are batch to batch color differences in everything including ColorSeal, grout and even color charts. So if you order a batch of ColorSeal based on a batch of color charts based on a batch of grout... well, you may end up with something pretty close to what you expect.

GROUT RESTORATION

No ColorSeal is going to fix defective grout, loose tiles, a bad subfloor, or structural problems. Seriously damaged grout is usually a sign of serious problems below the surface and it is important to understand what is going on with the floor before you even clean it, let alone ColorSeal it.

But often grout can take a beating from harsh cleaning, minor substrate deflection and general wear and tear. The grout plays very little structural role in the performance of the tiled floor and there is seldom reason to remove it if everything else is in order.

PT ColorClad™ is the thickest ColorSeal on the market and thus is capable of filling in the pits and fine cracks that other products leave exposed. ColorClad™ is also the most flexible ColorSeal available. With an elongation of over 325% (ASTM D412-06ae2) it is capable of keeping those cracks closed during minor deflections in the floor.

ADVANCED ADHESION

Tile grout is very often no longer a simple cementitious  product. Grout additives, epoxy and urethane grouts are becoming more common. PT ColorClad™ is designed for superior adhesion to all tile grouts, including epoxy.

ALUMINUM OXIDE FINISH

Aluminum Oxide, a mineral harder than granite, has been proven in factory applied wood floor finishes for years. PT ColorClad™ is the first ColorSeal product to employ Aluminum Oxide fillers to improve the durability of a ColorSeal.
